International Women’s Day: Celebrating Women in Technology.
Today, we are going to hear from Johana, a Frontend Engineer at IntelliSense.io (thank you Johana for making the brave jump to join our team in the middle of a Pandemic, we are very grateful you are a part of the IntelliSense.io family!).
We continue to share these stories because as a team we are passionate about International Women’s Day (IWD) and its mission to “celebrate digital advancement and champion the women forging innovation through technology”.
Tell us a little bit about your educational & career background
As a teenager, I toyed with the idea of becoming a teacher because I saw my mom working all week, enjoying her job and she is totally an influence on me. However, when I grew up I was attracted to the IT world and due to my abilities to teach and develop, I thought why not merge both of my dreams?
That’s me, after hard work, nights full of coding and studying, I finished my degree at university with good marks. I was also teaching programming at the same time, in the same university where I was studying, for more than seven years.
Despite working at a tech company some years ago during my first IT job, I knew very little about web development and especially front-end development. That’s what inspired me to learn more about and achieve the job that I have today.
Why did you choose technology as a career path?
I have been quite curious about the whole front-end development ecosystem, web and mobile development. It seems to me that technology and developer tooling evolve very fast and people have done a lot of creative things in this space in the last several years. I’m still inspired to learn new technologies and concepts regarding front-end development.
I have been a professional developer for a couple of years. During my career, I had the opportunity to work and collaborate with different kinds of people, which is something that I love.
I had previously worked in the sports industry for a couple of years (baseball, ice hockey, basketball, and football), it was pretty interesting and challenging but after all this time I did not find any relevant topic or something that struck or caught my personal interest anymore.
I was working for a multinational company where I had lots of experiences and good memories but I felt that it was time for a change and to work in a different company that matches all my personal and working expectations.
Why did you choose IntelliSense.io?
Fortunately, one day I found IntelliSense.io and working here has completely exceeded my expectations since the first moment. It is a global business, an amazing, small, and warm place to work, full of potential and resources to achieve the best.
At the same time, it’s a good place to grow and develop myself in a long-term career. We are employees from around the world with different backgrounds, experiences, and knowledge to share.
Also, I was inspired by the fact that IntelliSense.io was founded to turn the industrial world around 360 degrees, nothing will be the same again!
What does the future hold for you?
I am looking forward to growing the company and continuing to improve my skillset with small steps. In the upcoming years, I would love to support and go ahead with new adventures and paths where the company needs me.
At this moment, I can say that joining IntelliSense.io during the last year (and yeah, I know, we all know COVID does not help at all) was such a beautiful change in my life. Not only from a job aspect but also from a personal aspect. I moved to another country alone far from my family, another language, another job, but happily and with the best support I could ever have from my family and IntelliSense.io.
